Running earbuds or headphones are a minefield, in my experience. There are hundreds of thousands of options, and some are triple the price of others. I was sent a pair of Nank Ultra Clip-On Running Earbuds six months ago, and I have been thoroughly testing them to see if this relatively unknown brand can stand up against the big guys.

I have long been a fan of open-ear headphones for running and cycling; the design allows you to still hear the ambient sounds around you, and so retain spatial awareness and balance. This clip-on design is the first that I have tested though, so I was eager to see how they compared to the over-the-ear and headband style versions for comfort and security.

The Nank Ultra clip-on running earbud has been designed to offer an optimal blend of comfort, durability, and high-quality sound; with a sleek, minimalist design that is both visually appealing and functional.

Design and Comfort

The earbuds are lightweight at just 5.5 grams each, so they are barely noticeable during prolonged use. The clip-on design, which I was dubious of at first, ensures that the earbuds remain securely in place during intense physical activity, and I have yet to have one fall off mid-run or workout.

Sound Quality

The Nank Ultra earbuds deliver impressive sound quality, characterised by clear highs, balanced mids, and deep bass. When you are using the headphones for calls, the AI noise-cancellation technology helps to reduce background noise.

Durability and Battery Life

Durability is a crucial factor when choosing running earbuds, and the Nank Ultra does well here. They are constructed with high-quality materials that have proven to be sweat-resistant and continue to function during intense workouts. The earbuds offer up to 8 hours of continuous playback on a single charge, with a compact charging case providing additional charges to provide up to 40 hours of playback.

Connectivity and Features

Equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 technology, the Nank Ultra Earbuds have a stable connection to your phone. Touch-sensitive controls allow you to adjust volume, track skipping, and call answering; although my biggest gripe with these earbuds is that touch-sensitive controls like these are quite difficult to use mid-run when you are on the move.

Kit Focus – Rab Expedition 50L Kit Bag
