The new Yushan 3 shoes from 361° take an already brilliant trail running shoe (I ran my first off-road marathon in the original Yushan), and have developed them through better breathability and protection. These are fast and comfortable trail running shoes for all your off-road running pursuits.

The updated Yushan 3 design uses an engineered mesh fabric on the upper, create from one-piece of fabric; to ensure maximum comfort and breathability even in summer running conditions.

An anatomically designed Pressure Free Tongue contours over the top of the foot for a more customised fit; removing pressure and stress during dorsiflexion. The heel cup is then well padded and locks the heel securely and comfortably inside the shoe.

A full length QU!KFOAM insole utilises an EVA rubber blend for extra durability and comfort; while a QU!KSPRING+ midsole technology gives impressive cushioning and protection from rough trail surfaces.

On the tread front, the H.A.R.T. (High Abrasion Rubber Tech) outsole provides grip and stability on a multitude of terrain, and the QU!KFLEX 4Foot engineering provides enhanced ground contact for better traction and acceleration.

Out on the trails the Yushan 3 shoes feel fast, comfortable, well-padded and protective. I found them to come up slightly larger than previous Yushan models, but this was nothing that the advanced lacing system could not deal with – leaving a secure and comfortable fit. The shoes seem to be impressively durable too, with very little sign of wear on the soles or padding, even after several hundred kilometres of use.

If you are looking for supportive and comfortable trail running shoes to use on an off-road marathon or half-marathon this year, then these are a fantastic option.

Kit Focus – Merrell MQM 3 Mid Gore-Tex Hiking Boots

Fresh from the mountains of Sri Lanka, this is my review of the versatile and sure-footed Merrell MQM 3 Mid GORE-TEX hiking boots.  Merrell shoes have been a trustworthy walking partner of mine for several years now; with previous models reviewed here on The Expedition Journals including the MQM Flex 2.0 and ChopRock Aqua Shoes . The brand's footwear is comfortable, durable, and provides a reassuring foothold on a multitude of terrains.
