Kit Focus – KitBrix Modular Rugged Outdoor Kit Bags

KitBrix Kit Bags Review Tim WigginsNo Fuss. Just Organised Kit. For me, the KitBrix strap-line is one that resonates loud and clear. Sloppy kit leads to mistakes, wasted effort, and sometimes even failure; I have experienced my fair share of these and learnt that kit organisation is one of the essential elements of exploration, expeditions, and general outdoor pursuits.

KitBrix bags are made for the meticulous kit organiser. With a solid base, waterproof lining, multiple zippered pockets, and the ability to zip many bags together to create an organised kit stack; these bags are a dream for those that like to have a place for everything, and everything in its place.

I have been using KitBrix bags for several years for organisation on photoshoots, sailing holidays, and overseas travel. It is with my recent commitment to open water swimming though that I have really seen the design benefits of these great robust cube-shaped bags.

Open water swimming in December is cold. A wetsuit and your physical effort keep you warm when you are in the water; but the moment you reach the shore and begin to strip down, you very quickly have your residual body heat sapped away by sub-zero windchill. Speed is of the essence. The faster you can get out of your wet kit and into your warm kit, the faster you will gain some form of comfort.

The KitBrix bag is the perfect open water swimming bag. I leave mine on the beach stashed with dry clothes—safe in the knowledge that the waterproof fabric and zipper will shrug off any showers and sandstorms that arrive while I am out in the water.

On returning to the beach, I pull the KitBrix Doppie Bag from inside, pull off my wetsuit from under a DryRobe, and stash it inside. I can then quickly pull on my dry kit. I stash my watch and goggles safely inside the internal zippered pockets; place my phone in the clear window pocket under the bag's lid; then pull a flask of coffee from where I house it in the external mesh pockets. The routine is quick and efficient, and there is no risk of losing or damaging anything in the slightly frozen and frantic state that often follows a cold-water immersion.

Built to last and built to function. KitBrix bags are fantastic companions for outdoor adventures.
